Kenneth Wilbur Lundeby

Ken passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 in Dickinson, ND. Kenneth Wilbur Lundeby was born January 16, 1918 in Osnabrock, ND, the son of Henry and Janetta (Baker) Lundeby. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Osnabrock High School in 1935. Ken was united in marriage to Phyllis (Halvorson) Lundeby on April 29, 1950 in Moorhead, MN. To this union, Denise, John, and Karen were born. After high school, Ken joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and worked at various job sites in North Dakota and Utah. With the outbreak of World War II, Ken enlisted in the Navy and was selected for pilot training. He was commissioned an Ensign and later earned his Navy Pilot Wings at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Texas in 1943. He flew seaplanes and transport aircraft throughout the Pacific Theater of Operations until 1946. He retired from the military in 1969 as Lieutenant Colonel after 27 years of service and over 10,000 hours of flying time; serving in three wars: WWII, the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam. Ken and Phyllis settled in Mayville, ND where he was a Medical Clinic Business Administrator for 13 years. Ken and Phyllis relocated to Dickinson in 2005. Ken was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Club, Shrine, VFW, American Legion and the DAV. During retirement, Ken enjoyed fishing and playing card games, but golfing was his passion; playing his last round of golf at the Heart River Golf Course in 2008 at the age of 90. Ken is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; children, Denise (Dean) Thoreson of Seward, NE; John (Ann) Lundeby of O’Fallon, IL; Karen (Howard) Sharpe of Dickinson; grandchildren, Kimberly (Scott) Kish of Mountain Home, ID; Christopher (Jen) Thoreson of Seward, NE; Joshua (Stephanie) Lundeby of Alexandria, VA; Elizabeth Lundeby of O’Fallon, IL; Brian Sharpe of Dickinson, ND; Matthew Sharpe of Boulder, CO; and five great-grandchildren. Ken is also survived by three sisters; Vivian Johnson of Dickinson, ND, Adelene Kepler of Bismarck,ND, Eileen Fahnlander of Fargo, ND, and two brothers, Marvin Lundeby of Osnabrock, ND and Curtis Lundeby of Sioux Falls, SD. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Lundeby and Arnold Lundeby; and a sister, Evelyn Rude. Visitation: Will be will from 5 – 7 PM with a & PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume be one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the ND Military Funeral Honors Burial: Will be at the Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
