Doris V. Schmidt

Doris V. Schmidt, 88, of Hope, ND, died Friday, December 12, 2008, at the Union Hospital in Mayville, ND. Doris was born on May 16, 1920, the second child of Oscar and Clara (Simonson) Paulson. She was baptized and confirmed at Perry Lutheran Church, rural Clifford, ND. Doris attended rural school through the eighth grade and then worked for various farms in the Buxton and Clifford areas. In April 10, 1942, she married Edgar Schmidt at the Hope parsonage and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hope, ND. She was a farm wife and homemaker in the Hope area for the rest of her life. Her homemade soft molasses cookies, Christmas bread and potato dumplings were but a few of her excellent baking and cooking specialties. Doris enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing and made many lovely pieced quilts. She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Grant (Donna) Schmidt of Jamestown, ND, and Martin Schmidt of West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Karen Aaby of Fargo, ND; one brother, Walter Paulson of Mayville, ND; one brother-in-law, Hugo (Bette) Schmidt of Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar in 1987; one brother, Oliver Paulson and one sister Ardis Voltz. Memorial Service: 11 am Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hope, ND. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment: Hope Cemetery in Hope, ND.
