Brian David Nelson, 57, of Saint Paul, MN, formerly of Portland, ND passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Brian was born on August 22, 1957 in Fargo, ND. He grew up in Portland, ND and graduated from May-Port High School in 1975. He earned a degree in Business Management from Mayville State University. Brian always had a love for music. He taught himself how to play guitar while he was in high school. He played in multiple bands over the years and spent many weekends playing ‘gigs’. He surrounded himself with those who shared his passion of music. He continued to play guitar in his free time over the years and was very proud of his collection of acoustic and electric guitars. Brian was employed by Coastal Seafoods of Minneapolis, MN for nearly thirty years, where he was currently the wholesale manager. He was passionate about his job in the food industry and his co-workers became his second family. He was well known as a very important part of the Minneapolis food scene and his colleagues described him as a seafood scholar and a gentleman with a wicked wit. Brian is survived by his parents, Earl and Wilma Nelson, Portland, ND; one sister Jill (Mike) Carlucci, Puyallup, WA; two brothers, Bruce (Lisa) Nelson and Joel (Lori) Nelson, both of Portland, ND; four nephews, Micheal Nelson, Bismarck, ND, Matthew Nelson, Devils Lake, ND, Erik (Amanda) Nelson, Fargo, ND, Nicholas (Ashley Soma) Nelson, Portland, ND and one niece Emily Lindbo, Puyallup, WA and his beloved Dog, Joli. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to a charity of the donators choice. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7 PM with a 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be at the Bruflat Cemetery, Portland, ND.
