Julius A. Amb, 93, of Portland, ND died Friday, October 10, 2014 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Julius was born August 11, 1921, near Portland to Nicolai and Inga (Stolan) Amb. He grew up and attended school through 8th grade at Viking #10. He married Eleanor Alice Olson on October 1, 1948, and they spent their entire work life farming on the Amb homestead. After retirement they spent many years traveling and spending time in Arizona. He was baptized, confirmed, married and his life ended as a member of Bruflat Lutheran. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingo and card playing. He was a great storyteller, joke teller and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. But the most cherished memories are the visits from the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He built and operated a saw mill and was a creative woodworker of many musical instruments, furniture, and scaled models from farming equipment to airplanes. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor. Three children: Elaine Fremling, West Fargo, ND; Arlene (Terry) Kvislen, Fort Pierre, SD; and Parnell (Dede) Amb, Portland, ND. Ten grandchildren: Eric Fremling, Alicia Fremling, Vanessa Fremling, Michelle (Bryon) Keil, Todd (Jennifer) Kvislen, Janelle (Andrew) Carda, Nicole (Justin) Bachmeier, Melissa (Brent) Johnson, Cody Amb, Kyle (Madison) Amb. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice (the late Arthur) Lillemoen and many neices and nephews. Julius was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Inez. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7 PM with a 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be at the Bruflat Cemetery, Portland, ND.
