Sandra "Sandy" Popiela

Sandra “Sandy” Popiela, 59, of Mayville, ND passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 at her home under the care of Hospice, with family by her side. Sandy was born January 11, 1955 in Scottville, MI to Donald and Sylvia (Akans) Carlson. She grew up and attended school there. Sandy was and is loved by so many people who will miss her dearly. She loved all as family and had the most beautiful smile that brightened everyone’s day. Sandy worked at Mayville State University for several years and embraced the students and faculty. Many of the students loved her as their “mom away from home”. She always encouraged student’s academic and athletic accomplishments. She will be remembered for her sense of humor that made lots of laughter. Sandy is survived by her husband David of Mayville and was the mother of Jody and Jason Hathaway. Her grandchildren: Jenna, Jacob and Alex were the absolute joy of her life. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.
