Harold Leroy Thuen

Harold Thuen, 81, formerly Portland, ND, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Hatton Prairie Village, Hatton, ND surrounded by his family and Red River Valley Hospice. Harold Leroy Thuen was born to Hans and Ella (Bjerke) Thuen in Sharon, ND on September 8, 1932. He attended school in Beaver Creek and graduated from Portland High School in 1950. He attended North Dakota State School of Science and graduated as an electrical technician. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and completed his basic training in Fort Leonardwood, MO. On January 30, 1952 he eloped with Ione Domier of Mayville, ND to Crookston, MN. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, WA. Upon returning to ND, he started working for Audio Systems in Bismarck, ND. They returned to Mayville and he opened a TV Repair Shop in the Hanson Furniture Store and later moved his business to Portland. He later owned Higdem and Thuen Hardware Store with Lawrence Higdem. After returning to Audio Systems, he and Ione managed the Radio Shack in Mayville. He retired from Audio Systems in 2000. In 2011 he sold their home in Portland and moved to Sun Center Assisted Living in Mayville, ND. He entered Hatton Prairie Village in June, 2014. Harold is survived by Robert (Bob) and Dawn Thuen of Bismarck, ND, Rebecca (Beckie) and Bruce Kemmer of Havelock, NC, Wayne and Shelly Thuen of Horace, ND and Lisa and Bob Carlson Jr. of Stoughton, WI. He is also survived by grandchildren: Sarah Thuen, Jeremy Dahl, Mandy (Dahl) Phonethep, Corey, Adam, Brock and Aaron Thuen and Justin, Shantel and Jace Carlson, plus fifteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ione in 2001, his son, Mark in 1977, his parents, parents-in-law, brothers, Sam and Reuben and sisters, Judy, Henny, Alice and Margaret and numerous in-laws. Harold will be missed by many. We are going to miss his wonderful personality and especially, his one-line ‘zingers’. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7 PM with a 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Friday, July 11, 2014 at Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Burial: Will be at the Aurdal Cemetery, Portland, ND.
