Lillian Avis Hanson

April 24, 1920 — August 6, 2008

Lillian Strom Hanson, Mayville, ND died Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 at age 88 in Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND. Born on April 24, 1920 in Norway Township near Mayville, she was the youngest of eight children born to Anton and Maria (Arnegaard) Strom. She married Gustav Hanson, June 18, 1944. They farmed near Mayville and she lived on the farm until entering Luther Memorial Home in 2004. Lillain enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking and spending time with her family, her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also worked with 4-H as a leader for several years bringing her many life skills to share with the Lindaas Girls 4-H Club. As a young woman, before marriage, she worked for area families helping them with household duties and caring for children. Throughout her life she was an active supporter of activities involving her children and grandchildren as they participated in music, sports and plays. Being a descendant of Traill County pioneers, Gran and Aal Lutheran churches were of great importance to her. She was active in church activities throughout her life. She visited Norway in 1999 and spoke often of her visit with relatives. Unable to complete high school as a child, a source of pride for her was that at the age of 58, she was able to receive a high school diploma. Lillian is survived by her children, Marilyn (Rick) Holman of Mayville, Harlan (Jodee) Hanson of Mayville, and Gordon (Debora) Hanson of Hemet, CA. Grandchildren Mark Holman, Rochelle(Brent) Hanson, Katie Holman, Chad(Stacy) Hanson, Matthew Hanson, Michael Hanson, Jason Hanson, Laura Hanson, and Douglas Hanson. Great-grandchildren, Paul Holman, Skylar Brasseur, Reese Hanson, Kinsey Hanson, and Danica Hanson. Sister-in-Law Lilly Strom of Willmar, MN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gustav in 1979, siblings Ida(Olson), Bjore George, Hilda Neset, Arthur, Norman, Edwin Norman and Clara Brovold. Visitation will be at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel on Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Gran Lutheran Church, rural Mayville. Burial: Gran Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Mayville.
