Joe Allen Kenward, 77, of Page, ND died Friday, December 13, 2013 on his farm near Page. Joe Kenward was born September 29, 1936 in Page, N.D. to Harvey and Lillian (Bressie) Kenward. He grew up and attended school in Page, N.D., where he graduated from high school in 1954. Following graduation, he attended NDSU before he was inducted into the Army. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC as a paratrooper and completed 15 jumps during his Army career. Joe was honorably discharged in 1958. In the same year he married the love of his life, Mary Cathryn Gentry, in Roxboro, N.C., before returning to Page to pursue his passion of farming. Joe loved working the soil and tending to the crops. He also enjoyed restoring horse drawn buggies and collecting old or “vintage” farm equipment. Joe was a community man, enjoying every aspect of small-town life. He was appreciated for his great sense of humor and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, making them feel that they had just met a friend for life. Joe was a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, President of the Page Cemetery Board, and Member of the Valley Senior Services Board. He was a lifetime member of the Page United Methodist Church. Joe was a man with a lot of love in his heart especially for his two granddaughters. Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary; daughter Jeanne (Bruce) Laugtug of Moorhead, MN; son, Glenn Kenward of Page; granddaughters, Lindsey (Aaron) Rhoads of Las Vegas, NV, Katie Laugtug of Grand Forks, ND; sister, Valeda Samuelson of Fargo, ND; brothers, Dick (Violet) Kenward of Hood River, OR; Jim (Eloyce) Kenward of Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews; and amazing friends who have been like family to him over the years. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laurie Kenward; brothers and sister in laws, Robert and Virginia Kenward; Donald and Francis Kenward; and brother-in-law Ken Samuelson. Memorials for Joe can be sent to the Page Ambulance Service at PO Box 106, Page, ND 58064. Visitation: 2-4 PM on Thursday, December 19, 2013 with a prayer service at 4:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Page and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday, December 20, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Page, ND. Burial: Page Cemetery, Page, ND.
