Dorothy Mattson, 92, of Mayville, ND, died Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. She was born on April 9, 1921 in Kerkhoven, MN, the daughter of Peter and Claire (Bergen) Mortenson. She graduated with honors from Willmar High School. She later attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in Journalism. On December 15, 1941 she married A. LeVerne Mattson in Moorhead, MN. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Blanchard and Mayville, ND. Together they had two children, Gary and Connie. The couple retired from farming in 1982. After her husband died, Dorothy moved into Mayville and entered the Luther Memorial Home in 2005, and has resided there since. Dorothy was a member of the Blanchard Lutheran Church. One of her favorite memories was traveling with her husband LeVerne. On those travels, she would collect rocks and then polish them to make jewelry. She enjoyed reading, music and working on crossword puzzles. She also loved chocolate and until her last days, she wanted to be outside and sit in the sun. She is survived by one daughter: Connie Brasel of Janesville, WI; four grandchildren: Michelle (Joel) Apfel of Janesville, WI, Melissa Brasel of Waukesha, WI, Robin (Donald) Frazee of Woodland Hills, CA and Douglas Mattson of Oxnard, CA; and five great-grandchildren: Courtney, Terry, Benjamin, Brielle and Drew. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, LeVerne and her son, Gary. Visitation: Will be Friday, November 1, 2013 one hour prior to the service at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
