Linden Duane Holt

Linden Duane Holt, 83, of Mayville, ND died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND. Lindy was born May 7, 1930 to Henry and Ella (Sonstegaard) Holt at Park River, ND. The family moved to a farm northeast of Mayville when he was a young child. Lindy attended the Lindaas Township School and was confirmed at Mayville Lutheran Church. On November 25, 1950, Lindy married Nettie Ann Braaten at Crookston, Mn. They celebrated their 50th anniversary early in July of 2000 and Nettie passed away October 19, 2000. Together, they raised their four children on the farm near Blanchard, ND, where they lived for the many years Lindy spent working for C.G. “Bud” Hanson. Lindy spent most of his adult life doing farm work, which he truly loved. In 1978 they moved to Mayville. Lindy worked at the Mill for Dornacker Seed and later for Luther Memorial Home in maintenance. After his retirement from LMH, Lindy again spent time working for area farmers during planting and harvest time. Most recently, he kept busy shuttling cars and running parts for Finley Motors. Lindy loved staying active, visiting with the guys and having a purpose for his days. Lindy loved his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was always ready to go to their games and activities. He liked keeping up with the area high school and college teams and would go to any basketball game he had the chance to attend. After his retirement, Lindy also loved to travel to Florida to spend time with his son, Doug. He was quite the family historian as well, and took great pleasure telling stories and reminiscing. Lindy loved life, was a happy man and usually had a smile on his face. Lindy is survived by his son, Steve Holt and daughter, Sharyl (Bruce) Hanson, Mayville; his son Tim (Denise) Holt, Grand Forks, ND and by five grandchildren, Ethan Hanson, Ashley Hanson, Elsa Hanson, Landon Holt, and Devany Holt, and two great-grandchildren, Ava Thompson and Stetson Haman. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers Delores (Orville) Lande, Donna (Lowell) Lande, Dick (Marlys) Holt, Dale (Beverly) Holt, all of Mayville, Allan (JoAnn) Holt, Fargo, Beverly Kuntz, Billings, Mt. and his sister-in-law Betty (Richard) Rosevold, Mayville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nettie, son Doug, brothers Darroll and Byron, and his sisters Hazel Idso, Eleanor Soholt, and Lorraine Holt. Visitation: 5-7 PM on Friday, October 18, 2013 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
