Gerald (Jerry) Raymond Carr, 73, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. He was born August 26, 1940 in Thomas, West Virginia to Olie Luther and Gladys May (Shaffer) Carr. Gerald graduated from Thomas High School in 1958; he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school and was stationed at Finley, ND, Peoria, IL, San Clemente, CA (1958 – 1962). Gerald was united in marriage to Janice (Aasen) Carr on October 29, 1961 in Mayville, ND. They made their homes in Hanna City, IL; Long Beach, CA; Fargo, ND; Portland, ND and Mayville, ND. Gerald worked for Boeing Co., 3M, SiouxLand, Gambles Hardware, Mayville Police Department, Land O’Lakes, Rahr Direct Co. and the Mayville Elevator. He was part-owner of May-Port Commodities with his father-in-law and brother-in-law, and was owner/operator of Carr Trucking. He was a dedicated employee to A.H. Newman Inc. for over 20 years. Gerald’s greatest passion was his family; whether it was in Detroit Lakes, MN; West Virginia or at Forest Hills Resort he was always happy when his family was near. His ideology of family played through in the community too by being involved in the May-Port Booster club which supports his children and grandchildren. He was also a member of the Anderson-Hefta American Legion Post and First American Lutheran Church. Gerald is survived by his wife, Janice (Mayville, ND); three children: Carla Moeller (Mayville, ND), Lori Dickson (Fargo, ND), and Michael (Jennifer) Carr (Mayville, ND). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tracy Bjerke, Michelle Bjerke, Alia (Nathan) Cota, Danielle Carr, Kaitlyn Carr, Benjamin Dickson, Joshua Moeller, Madison Carr, Taylor Dickson, Joseph Carr, and Marybeth Miller, and his great-granchildren: Isabella Bjerke and Trevin Taylor. Surviving are his siblings: Betty (John) Moore, Dolores (Garland) McCutcheon, Evelyn (Kay) Armentrout and David (Carol) Carr, sister-in-laws Phyllis Carr, Barbara Brend, Mary Pettit, and brother-in-law Ernest White. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olie and Gladys Carr; brothers Charles Carr and Donald Carr; a sister Joyce White; father and mother-in-law Carl and Avis Aasen; brothers-in-law Wayne (Karolyn) Aasen and George Pettit; and nephew Jeffrey Aasen. Visitation: 5-7 PM on Monday, October 14, 2013 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at First American Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
