Walter F. Brend

Walter F. Brend, 91, of Mayville, ND, formerly of Buxton, ND, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Walter was born on July 11, 1916, near Portland, ND, the son of Ole and Mina (Hallingstad) Brend. He attended Primrose country school and graduated from Portland High School. Walter then attended Mayville Normal School and later, Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. On July 18, 1947, he married Edna Nygaard at the United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND. The couple lived and farmed in the Cummings area until the late 1980’s. They moved into Mayville and in October of 2004, the couple then moved into the Luther Memorial Home. Walter was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Buxton, where he served on the Church Council. He was the Ervin Township Treasurer for many years, enjoyed attending local sporting events, gardening and working outside. Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Byron) Thronson of New Iberia, LA and Deanna (Dave) Martinsen of Forman, ND; one son, Warren (Barbara) Brend of Buxton, ND; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna in November of 2004; three sisters and five brothers. Funeral: 1:30 P.M. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Buxton, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, May 7, 2008 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton, ND and one hour before the funeral at the church. Burial: Immanuel Cemetery #2 West, Buxton, ND.
