Irene Kvernen

Irene Kvernen, 86, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Portland, ND, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo. Irene was born on June 14, 1927, in Kintyre, ND, to Jens and Ellen (Syverson) Dahl. Soon after, the family moved to Portland, where she grew up and graduated from Portland High School. She was a lifetime member of Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland. She married Ardell Kvernen in 1948. They made their home in Portland. Ardell passed away on October 9, 2007. Irene moved to Fargo in 2011. Irene is survived by her daughters: Joline (Richard) Reiten of Jamestown, ND, Sharon of Fargo, ND and Sheila (Dale) Tretter of Fargo, ND; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister: Elaine Sundeen of Warroad, MN; a sister-in-law: Eleanore Dahl of Fargo, ND; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Ardell; brother: Purdin Dahl and sister: Vivian Christianson. Memorial preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Visitation: 5-7 PM on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Burial: Aurdal Cemetery, Portland, ND.
