Mary Elizabeth Congdon

Mary Elizabeth Congdon 89, of Mayville, ND, formerly of Decatur, MI died Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Mary was born September 30, 1923 to Henry Franklin and Mary Agnes(Goodwin) Meade in Dallas, TX. She attended the local Presbyterian church and graduated from high school in Irving ,TX. Mary's family moved to Paola, KS where she married George D. Aubrey and they raised seven children. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary worked as a secretary for the Miami County Extension Service office and was active as a 4H leader for many years. George passed away in 1976. Mary remained in Paola for several years, and then met and later married Norvin E. Beck of Louisburg, KS. Norvin and Mary enjoyed traveling to Mission, Texas for the winter where they were active in the Fiesta Village Retirement community. They both enjoyed dancing, playing cards and shuffleboard. Norvin passed away in 1988. Mary continued to travel to Mission, TX in the winter where she met and married Guy W. Congdon of Decatur, MI. Guy and Mary eventually decided that travelling back an forth was too strenuous and made their home in Mission. Both Guy and Mary suffered medical complications in 2006 and moved to White Oak Manner in Lawton MI. Guy passed away in 2008 and Mary moved to Mayville to be closer to family. Mary enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to camp, fish, sing and dance. She was also a member of a square dancing team in Decatur. She was the chairman of the shuffleboard committee in Fiesta Village for many years and helped organize several citywide tournaments annually. Mary was also a member of the Eastern Star in Decatur. Mary is survived by two sons: Ray G. (Denise) Aubrey of Cleveland TN; Gordon Ray (Marie) Aubrey of Hatton, ND; 22 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers John and Curtis Meade, husbands George, Norvin and Guy, three sons Gordon Lee , Paul and Bruce and two daughters Ramona and Lois and a grandson Douglas. There will be a graveside service on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Lakeside cemetery in Decatur, MI. Visitation: Will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Memorial Service: 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND.
