Romona Ingrid Bohlin

Romona I. Bohlin, 93, of Mayville, ND, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Union Hospital in Mayville. Romona Ingrid Bohlin was born on May 13, 1914 in St. Paul, MN, and raised by Gustav and Christina Bohlin in Detroit Lakes, MN. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1932. She attended the Teachers Training School in Detroit Lakes and taught 3 years in Becker County rural schools. Romona returned to Moorhead State Teachers College (now MSUM) for further studies and graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree in both History and English. Romona taught History and English in Wadena and also in Litchfield, both in Minnesota. Romona moved to Mayville, ND and taught History and English in the Mayville school district for 24 years. She was a lover of history. She collected historical and written documents from the United States and from European countries in her extensive travels. Many former students praised her ability to teach. One young man wrote her and said of her teaching ability “She made history come alive for me.” Romona retired from teaching in 1980. She had been in quite good health since her retirement. She moved into the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville in May of 2001. Survivors include her niece, Wilma Jordan Wagner and her husband Albert Wagner of Detroit Lakes, MN; her good friend, Schela Gander and her husband Larry Gander of Portland, ND; one great niece, Jackie Erickson of Fertile, MN; and two nephews, James (Nancy) Wagner of Fertile, MN, and Mark (Barb) Wagner of Lake Park, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Hannah Bohlin Jordan and Esther Bohlin Patterson. Service: Thursday at 10 AM at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville Visitation: Will be from 5-7 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral service, all at Baker Funeral Home Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN
