Norma Inez Rye

Norma Inez Rye, 97, of Moorhead, MN formerly of Mayville ND, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at home in Moorhead. Norma (Renden) was born February 28, 1916 to Nels and Inga (Wolden) Renden at rural Blanchard, ND. She was baptized, confirmed and attended schools in the Blanchard and Mayville communities. She married William Rye on August 20, 1936 at Hillsboro, ND. The couple settled in Libertyville, IL where they operated the New Castle Hotel and Apts. Later they purchased the Renden farm at Blanchard where they farmed until retirement. In 1976 they purchased a home in Mayville. Norma worked 12 years as a dietetic supervisor at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Norma and William enjoyed retirement years by traveling and taking fishing trips together. William passed away in June of 1983. Norma treasured her time with her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and was looking forward to a great-great-grandson to be born in April, Easton David. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, casino visits and being with family and friends. She was a member of Mayville Lutheran Church and the Mayville Senior Club. Norma had been residing with her son, Mark and his wife Sandy in Moorhead for the last few years. Norma is survived by 2 sons, Donald (Connie) Rye of Yuma, AZ and Mark (Sandy) Rye of Moorhead; grandsons, David Rye of Thompson, ND and Shawn (Heather) Rye of Barnesville, MN; granddaughters, Linda Hettervig of Grand Forks, ND, and Jeanine (Joel) Rosenthal of West Fargo, ND; great-grandchildren, Dustin (Ashley) Hettervig, Ashley Hettervig, Jordyn Rosenthal, Nolan and Nora Rye; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William; twin sons, Robert and Rolland; brother, Kenneth and sister, Lily Vance. Visitation: One hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Memorial Service: 11:00 am Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND with a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial: Mayville City Cemetery.
