Sharon Peige Dakken

Sharon Peige Dakken, 66 of Mayville, ND died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Sharon was born January 13, 1947 in Mayville, ND to Klarius and Joyce (Larson) Balstad. She attended grade school in Portland, ND and graduated from Mayville High School. She attended Mayville State College for 2 years. In 1964 Sharon married David Cuthbertson in Portland, together they had 3 daughters. On August 2, 1985 she married Larry Dakken; along with his son and daughter, the family made their home in Mayville. Sharon retired as department head of housekeeping at Luther Memorial Home and has worked there since 1988. She also had worked at Soholt Bakery and Brauhaus. She was active in many organizations including, Associate Vietnam Veterans of America serving as Chapter 374 president, state liaison for ND Vietnam Veterans of America, VFW Auxiliary, Bruflat Lutheran Church and WELCA. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, being with her grandkids, gardening, spending time with family and cuddling with her cats, Mokie, Scrapper and Boots. Sharon loved people, her family, her animals, SunCenter and Luther Memorial Home residents who were like her second family. Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry of Mayville; son, Derrek (Jenny) Dakken of Thief River Falls, MN; 4 daughters, Beth (Bill) Varty of Mayville, Cristi (Cory) Sorenson of Roseberg, OR; DeAnn Wika of Fargo; and Heather (Matt) Satrom of Portland; 17 grandchildren, Samantha (Jeremy), Forest, Brandon, Jenna, Zachary, Aaron, Skylar, Taylor, Tanner, TJ, Natasha, Madaline, Issac, Alicia, Caitlyn, Harley, and Evie; 4 brothers, Tom (Arlys) Balstad of East Grand Forks, MN, Dean (Diana) Balstad of Kennedy, MN, Robert (Elsa) Balstad of Mesa, AZ, and Billy (Mimi) Balstad of Portland; 3 sisters, Mary (Greg) Dronen of Hutchinson, MN, Barbara (Dave) Hammerstein of Sun City, AZ, and Nancy (Brian) Idso of Portland; mother-in-law, Phyllis Dakken of Mayville; sister-in-law, Rita Balstad of Portland; special cousin/sister, JoAnn Studlien (Dave McMullen) of Portland; uncle and aunt, Allan and Kay Larson of Crookston, MN; brother-in-law, Terry (Laurie) Dakken of Hebron, ND; sisters-in-law, Penny (Jim) Leland of Portland, Diane (Rod) Schnebli of Grand Forks, ND, and Cheryl (Dan) Conway of OR; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bradly; father-in-law, Orville Dakken; brother-in-law, Ronnie Dakken; nephews, Andy Dakken, Jacob and Sam Leland. Visitation: 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the memorial service, at the church. Memorial Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Bruflat Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
