Kenneth Bertrum Forsgren

Kenneth Bertrum Forsgren, 97, of Mayville ND, passed away on Monday December 31, 2007 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Kenneth (Ken) was born in Nelson MN on February 10, 1910 to Gustaf Adolph and Jennie Josephine (Bergland) Forsgren. Ken graduated from Nelson MN grade school and Alexandria MN High School. He attended several years of college in Fargo at the AC. He married Pearl Irene Hanson on June 11, 1939 in Nelson MN. He went to work for Red Owl Stores and managed the Red Owl Store in Mayville in the late 30’s where he met Lester Parish. He moved on to be a district manager for Red Owl in a three state area during the war. This proved to be a lot of travel and he seldom got to see his family. In 1945 Lester encouraged him to return to Mayville and go into the car business with him. He has sold cars ever since then, with the most recent one less than six months ago. His card always said (semi-retired). He was a member of Mayville Lutheran Church, the Masons, Mayville Improvement Corp., the Mayville Civic Club, Mayville Golf Club, and the Son’s of Norway. He served as an officer in many positions in all of those organizations. He was one of the people instrumental in establishing the Luther Memorial Home. He spent many hours visiting local churches and communities soliciting their help in getting the home going. The pictures of the church alters in the lobby of the LMH were taken by him. Pictures were his passion. If you hinted that you needed some pictures taken of your family or an event, he was there. He always said, “You can’t give a person a better gift than a good picture of their family or friends”. He loved to visit with people. He spent his last years visiting with the people in the LMH and anyone that walked by his door. He just loved people and talking to them. His father and mother, Gustaf and Jennie, his stepmother Hulda, his wife Pearl Irene, his sister Dorothy Green and his brothers Howard and Ralph Forsgren, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Helen (Rod) Hokenson, his sister-in-law Pearl B. Forsgren, his sons Roger (Judy) and Richard (Eldra) Forsgren, his grandchildren David (Laurel) Forsgren, Lisa Forsgren, Jeanine (Charles) Arnold, Troy Forsgren, his great grandchildren Isak and Levi Arnold and many loving nieces and nephews and other family members. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. VISITATION: Friday, January 4, 2008 from 5-7 PM at Baker Funeral Home of Mayville and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. BURIAL: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
