Mickel O. Aamold

Mickel O. Aamold, 91, of Mayville, ND, died Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Mickel O. Aamold was born January 7, 1921 the son of Oscar and Sina (Svaleson) Aamold in Portland, ND. He attended school in Portland and after the death of his mother, he lived with his Aunt Anna Fyre in rural Mayville. He entered the US Army in November of 1942 and served in Patton’s Army. He landed on D Day +5 and fought to Munich, Germany, going through Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. Mickel was Honorably Discharged in November of 1945 and he returned to North Dakota and worked on the Renden family farm. He married Mary Lou Renden on June 25, 1953 in the Mayville Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Portland and Mickel worked construction at the Grand Forks Air Base. In 1965, they moved to the Olaf Renden farm in rural Mayville and continued to farm until 1980. They resided on the farm until December of 2011 when they entered the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Mickel was an active member of Gran Lutheran Church, the VFW and American Legion. He and his wife enjoyed countless dances at the Lindaas Barn. The couple ran the Kaffe Hus in the Luther Memorial Home for residents and their families. Mickel had a great love for his grandchildren, all animals and was a very proud veteran. He is survived by his wife: Mary Lou Aamold of Mayville; daughter: Sarah (Loren) Gustafson of Aneta, ND; granddaughter: Nicole (Travis) Brantner of Eau Claire, WI and two great-grandchildren: Hailey and Brooklyn; sister: Judy (Richard) Beck of Portland; brother Richard Aamold of Portland; sister-in-law: Ilene (Joseph) Brown of Edgewater, FL; step-sister: Irene Lidstrom of Portland; step-brother: Irvin Higdem of Portland and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Howard and Jimmy Aamold; grandsons: Davis Gustafson, Michael Stetz and Roger Stetz; and sister: Lorraine Strom. Visitation: Will be on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 5 ~ 7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 2:30 PM Friday, October 26, 2012 at Gran Lutheran Church in rural Mayville, ND. Burial: Gran Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
