Olga J. Syverson

August 30, 1914 — December 16, 2007

Olga Syverson, 93, of Mayville, ND, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Union Hospital in Mayville, surrounded by her loving family. Olga Johanne Amundson was born August 30, 1914 near Portland, ND the first of ten children to Alvin and Jörgine (Kjensrud) Amundson. She was confirmed at Bruflat Lutheran Church June 9, 1929 by Reverend Lien. She graduated from Portland High School May 26, 1933. She received her teacher’s certificate September 16, 1933 and taught at Viking #3 near Portland. She married Melvin Syverson on June 3, 1934 at Climax, MN. They lived and farmed in Roseville Township near Portland. Together they had three children. Their golden wedding anniversary was celebrated in Aurdal Lutheran Church in June of 1974. Melvin died on May 29, 1989. Olga then moved into Mayville where she lived independently until September when a fall resulted in hospitalization and a stay at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Olga taught Sunday school at Aurdal Lutheran Church for several years. She was active in 4H as a Leader in Viking and Roseville Townships. She continued to share her knowledge and skills in sewing, cooking, and gardening with her children, many friends and relatives. She enjoyed her flower garden and the company of the many birds that would visit the feeders at her window. She is survived by two children: Marlene (Robert) Maxon of Grand Forks, ND, and Larry (Patricia) Syverson of Mayville; three grandchildren: Ryan Syverson of Palmdale, CA; Scott Syverson of Fargo, ND; Jessica Syverson of Grand Forks, ND; a great granddaughter, Brittany Berg of Fargo, ND; three brothers: Norman (Orpha) Amundson of Detroit Lakes, MN, Elroy and Alvin Jr. Amundson, both of Portland, ND; two sisters: Delores Amb and Irene (Martin) Ingebretson both of Portland, ND; sisters-in-law: Doris Amundson of St. Paul, MN, Jean Amundson of Sauk Rapids, MN; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son Melvin Oris Syverson, her parents, brothers, Alexander, Curvin, Roger, and Glenn Amundson, brother-in-law, Thomas Amb, sisters-in-law, Frances, Blanche, Janice, and Esther Amundson. FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, December 21, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. VISITATION: Thursday, December 20, 2007 from 5-7PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Baker Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. BURIAL: Aurdal Cemetery, Portland, ND.
