Galen Mark Nelson

Galen Mark Nelson, 43, of Portland, ND, died Sunday, November 25, 2007, at Union Hospital in Mayville, ND. Galen was born March 12, 1964, in Mayville, ND, the son of Clarence and Karen (Thompson) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland. He graduated from the Portland-Mayville High School in 1982. After high school he worked for Store Oil and Auto in Hunter, ND. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science and graduated with a degree in auto mechanics. He then worked with his family at Nelson Sales and Repair in Portland-Mayville. In 1987 he started working at Hatton Ford in Hatton, ND, where he continued to work until his health declined. He was a member of Aurdal Lutheran Church and the Portland Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, and was an avid trapper as a child. He was a Minnesota Viking Football fan, and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. He is survived by his parents, Clarence and Karen of Portland, ND; two brothers, Clarence Jr. of Mayville, ND, and Dalen (Bridgette) of Aberdeen, SD; one sister, Cindy (Andy) Benda of Aberdeen, SD; two nieces, Abby Jo Nelson and Teressa Nelson; and three nephews, Cully Nelson, Alex Nelson and Decker Benda. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland. VISITATION: Tuesday, November 27, 2007 from 5-7 PM at Baker Funeral Home of Mayville and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
