Sylvia Jean (Olstad) Kyllo, 81, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville under the care of their staff, Hospice of the Red River Valley and her family. She was born August 10, 1930 to Pauli and Alma (Erickson) Olstad at their farm home near Galesburg, ND. She went to Bowers School #1 for 6 years. In 7th grade, she went to Hunter School for 4 years then spent her junior and senior years at Page High School, graduating in 1948. She entered the Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND, in the fall and graduated in 1951 with an RN degree. She remained working at the Obstetrics Department at Deaconess. On March 28th, 1952 she married Harvey Kyllo. He was serving in the US Army and was deployed to Korea 10 days after the wedding. She worked night duty as assistant supervisor at Deaconess Hospital for 18 months while Harvey served in the Korean War. They lived and worked in Grand Forks until they bought a farm in rural Clifford, ND in 1956. They were blessed with three children. In 1961, they moved to a farm near Blanchard, ND where their family worked in the fields together. They retired in 1997 and moved to Mayville, ND. She belonged to Stordahl Lutheran Church, rural Galesburg. She was the Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, youth advisor and served many offices in the WELCA. She belonged to the Mayville Women’s Club and served on the Luther Memorial Home Board, the Luther Memorial Home Auxiliary, and the West Traill Soil Conservation Auxiliary. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were her life. She loved going to all of their music and sports activities. She enjoyed baking cinnamon bread, chocolate chip cookies and meatballs for her grandkids. She will be remembered for her generous hugs, warm hospitality, and sharing many loaves of cinnamon bread. She is survived by her children Kriss Ann (Dean) Erickson of Galesburg; Kevin Harvey (Kimberly) Kyllo of Blanchard and Steven Paul (Jodi) Kyllo of Blanchard. Grandchildren Nicholas (Danielle) Erickson, Adam (Ashley) Erickson, Matthew Erickson, Kaelin Kyllo, Jeffrey Kyllo, Joni Kyllo, Ethan Kyllo and Jocelyn Kyllo. Great grandchildren Noelle and Nyla Erickson and Brogen Erickson and another arriving in October. Two sisters, Helen (Ralph) Punton of Ayr, ND; Marcy (James) Bubb of Alvarado, MN; two brothers Douglas (Myrna) Olstad of Valley City, ND; and Donald (Janice) Olstad of Galesburg. Sisters in law, Darlene (Howard) Rensvold of Fargo, ND; Bonnie (Gary) Erickson of Mayville. Brothers in law, Duane (Diane) Bring of Galesburg; Bernie (Frances) Kyllo of Bismarck, ND; Ronnie (Ilene) Kyllo of Galesburg, ND and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Harvey, an infant son and infant daughter; parents, Pauli and Alma Olstad; parents in law, Edwin and Bernice Kyllo; sister, Connie Bring; brother-in-law, Tom Ritland; and nephews Robert and Shane Erickson. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Stordahl Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Stordahl Lutheran Church, rural Galesburg, ND. Visitation: Will be from 4:00–7:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2012 with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Stordahl Lutheran Church, rural Galesburg, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Burial: Stordahl Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Galesburg, ND.
