Lois Eileen (Hulterstrum) Vadnie, 91, of Clifford, ND, died Monday, October 15, 2007, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Lois was born on January 17, 1916, on the former Mark Lofland farm, near Clifford, the daughter of David and Nora (Peterson) Hulterstrum. She graduated from Clifford High School and also from Mayville State Teacher’s College. Lois taught for three years in rural schools near Blanchard, ND. On June 5, 1937, she married Gordon Henry Vadnie in Clifford at the church parsonage. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Clifford. Gordon died August 16, 1981. Lois continued to live on the farm until entering the Luther Memorial Home in March of 2005. Lois was an active member in the Norman Lutheran Church in Clifford, especially in the Ladies Aid/ WELCA Circle. She taught Sunday school there and was also Superintendent. Lois was on a bowling league, and a member of the Steele County Homemakers. She was also very active with the American Cancer Society, helping with fundraisers. She loved sewing, flower gardening, crossword puzzles and scrabble; and watching Jeopardy, bowling, and basketball on the television. She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, Jack (Donna) Vadnie of Clifford and Fred (Kristi) Vadnie of Galesburg; 6 grandchildren, Dara Vadnie of Fargo, Lisa Vadnie of Duluth, MN, Jason Vadnie of Fargo, Kayla Vadnie of Clifford, Brandon (Dawn) Vadnie of Clifford and Briar (Zachary) Honeyman of Hettinger, ND; 2 great-grandchildren, Destiny and Gavin Vadnie of Galesburg. She is also survived by one brother, Joeseph (Alice) Hulterstrum of Mount Prospect, IL and one brother-in-law, Leo Ziesmer of Detroit MI. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, three brothers, Lyle, Phil and Neal Vadnie, and one sister, Gertrude Ziesmer.
