Esther Olive (Sundby) Rud, 96, of Mayville, ND died Monday, June 4, 2012 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Esther was born in Sherbrooke Township, rural Portland, ND on November 18, 1915 to JK and Thea (Heskin) Sundby. Esther attended elementary at Sherbrooke country schools. She attended and graduated from Portland High School at the former Bruflat Academy, where she was active in basketball. She taught summer parochial school and Sunday School classes at Bang Lutheran Church in rural Portland. On October 23, 1939, Esther became the bride of Arthur Rud. They farmed west of Portland. From this union six children were born; Sandra (Glenn) Anderson of Spooner, WI, Arlene (Dale) Evanson of Westport, OR, Paul Rud, deceased, Jerrel (Judy) Rud of Owatonna, MN, Joyce (Gary) Berger of Portland, ND and Lorna (Clayton) Amb of Burnsville, MN. She was grandma to 13; great-grandma to 30 and great-great-grandma to 2. Esther worked almost 30 years at the Luther Memorial Home and was active in her church and the church women’s group. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, JK and Thea Sundby; husband, Arthur; son, Paul; granddaughter, Teresa Amb; and three sisters, Mildred Braud, Clara Groven and Ruth Leland. Visitation: Will be on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 5 ~ 7 PM at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
