James S. Murphy

March 3, 1940 — May 15, 2012

James Smith Murphy, 72, formerly of Froid, MT, now of Mayville, ND, passed away May 15, 2012 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville. Jim was born March 3, 1940 in Dundee, Scotland to Peter and Jesse (Smith) Murphy. In 1970 he met Karen Thiessen in Vienna, Austria and they were married June 28, 1971 in Plentywood, MT. They returned to Scotland and later settled in Froid, MT. In October 2011 they moved to Mayville to be closer to their son. Jim was known for his love for Christ and his beautiful solo singing in church. He loved and promoted the game of golf, coaching many years for FHS. He and his son John took a dream trip to Scotland in 1999 to golf for a month. He was a cabinet maker, school janitor and machine quilter. He is survived by his widow Karen and son John, both of Mayville, his sister Marion, brothers David and Bill all of Scotland, and in-laws in Montana, Arizona, Nebraska, Texas and Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Peter and Alex. Jim was a good and gracious man, generous to friends and strangers alike. As he wished, his remains have been donated to the UND Medical School. No services are planned. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Jim was a devoted reader of Our Daily Bread and it would mean a lot to him for your support of this Bible study service. Their website is www.rbc.org; their address is RBC Ministries, P.O. box 2222, Grand Rapids, MI 49501.
