Edith N. Stockeland, 104, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012, at the Luther Memorial Home, in Mayville, ND. Edith was born February 24, 1908, to Genevia Josephine (Keene) and Paul Joseph (P.J.) Coenen at Page, ND, number 13 of 17 children. She attended school in Page through the fifth grade. On July 20, 1946, at Luverne, ND, Edith married Edwin Stockeland of Hannaford, ND. They farmed for a time near Luverne, ND, and later ran the saloon in Clifford, ND. Edith lived most of her life in the Clifford and Galesburg area. In May of 2008, she moved into Mayville residing at the Luther Memorial Home. Edith enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening through the years. She was always baking bread, especially “hobo” bread in cans. She also enjoyed crocheting and crafting. Edith is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, parents, five sisters (Mary Benzmiller, Elizabeth Irwin, Rose Gabdie, Georgia “Sis” Howard, and Josephine Baker), eleven brothers (John, Patrick, Frank, William “Bill”, Henry, Harry, Fred, John A., Pete, George, and Edward “Bud”), and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Will be on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 5 ~ 7 PM at the Baker Funeral Home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
