Orion Jerome Kvernen

Orion Kvernen, 77, Mayville, ND died Friday, November 25, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Orion Jerome Kvernen was born February 15, 1934 to Oscar and Julia (Domier) Kvernen in Mayville. He grew up and attended primrose country school, southwest Portland, ND. He was confirmed at Perry Lutheran Church, rural Portland. He worked on the family farm before joining the US Army in 1956. He married Marion Bjerke and together they had 7 children. Orion worked for the Creamery in Portland, Hanson Transfer and the Portland Elevator. On December 1, 1983 he married Sylvia Domier and the couple made their home in Mayville. Orion enjoyed many years with his long-time dog, Lenny, and most recent his special rescue dog, Lucy. He is survived by 6 children, Darrell (Marge) Kvernen of East Grand Forks, MN, Terry (Lynn) Strand of Moorhead, MN, Paul (Tamarie) Kvernen of East Grand Forks, MN, Dale (Kim) Kvernen of Portland, Cheri Gregor of Fargo, ND, and Jenell (Ron) Braseth of Mayville; 4 step-children, Rebecca (Harold) Ambroson of Elk Grove Village, IL, Randy (Becky) Domier of Grafton, ND, Lisa Domier of Olney, MD, and Kathryn (James) Rygg of Portland; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Rose) Kvernen of Portland; sister, Avis Karlstad of Mayville; sisters-in-law, Ruth Kvernen of Portland, and Irene Kvernen of Fargo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia in 2010; infant daughter, Geri Kay; and brothers, Raymond and Ardell. Visitation will be 5-7 PM with a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM, on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND.
