Rosalie Kaldor Schmitz

April 23, 1914 — May 4, 2011

Rosalie Kaldor Schmitz, 97, of Williston, ND and Mesa, AZ, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston, ND. Rosalie Mae Foogman was born April 23, 1914 to Adolph and Helen (Schneider) Foogman in Hillsboro, ND. She attended school in Hillsboro and graduated in 1935 from the University of North Dakota with a degree in mathematics. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Rosalie taught school in Hillsboro. She married Harvey Kaldor of Hillsboro on June 11, 1938; they moved to Mayville, ND where he practiced law and they raised their family. While living there, Rosalie was involved in many clubs, organizations and volunteer work. Harvey and Rosalie divided their time between their home in Mayville and their cottage in the summer on Lake Melissa, Detroit Lakes, MN. Later they also wintered in Mesa, AZ. Harvey died in 1979. In 1989 Rosalie married Millard Borke, a former Hillsboro classmate. They made their home in Mesa, AZ and Lake Melissa. Millard died in 1993. She married Herman Schmitz in Arizona in 1996. They made their home in Williston, ND and Mesa, AZ. Rosalie had a wonderful sense of humor, was always generous with her time, loved to entertain, especially at Lake Melissa; she enjoyed and loved many friends. She was an avid reader, bridge player and enjoyed golf. She enjoyed living in Williston, but always loved to return to Mayville in the summer for a few days to visit good friends. Her favorite place in the world was being at Lake Melissa with her family. She never missed a summer visiting there. She called it her “one constant” in her life. She had a wonderful love for her Lord Jesus and was a member of Mayville Lutheran Church. Rosalie enjoyed good health, a great wit, a good book and a fun game of bridge until a stroke on May 2, 2011. She did not simply love life, but celebrated every moment of it. Her family honors her life by remembering how much fun, joy and love she brought to their lives. Those preceding her in death were: her parents; sister, Elise Tonn of Hillsboro; and her husbands, Harvey Kaldor and Millard Borke. Those left to celebrate her life are: husband, Herman Schmitz, Williston, ND; son, Dr. Richard (Heide) Kaldor, Sedona, AZ; daughter, Zo (Dr. Gary) Karlstad, Grand Forks, ND; six grandchildren: twins, Dr. Katheryn Kaldor and Kristin (Jimmy) Kaldor-Kassis, Kori Kaldor, Karla Kaldor, Dr. Ryan (Amy) Karlstad, Amy (Rich) Waag; seven great-grandchildren: Kristian Kassis, Emmy Kassis; twins, Ava Karlstad and Elise Karlstad, Kendall Waag, Ella Waag, Harrison Waag; nephew, Dr. Robert Tonn; niece, Helen Goodfellow; and the Herman Schmitz’ family who was always so kind and loving to Rosalie.
