Helen Paulson Simengaard, 92, of Mayville, ND, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 under the care of Hospice and the Luther Memorial Home of Mayville, ND, with family at her side.

Helen was born April 30, 1919, on a farm near Portland, ND to parents Mabel (Gorder) and Henry Pederson. Helen was baptized and confirmed at Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND.

On December 3, 1940 Helen married McLain Paulson. They made their home on a farm Southeast of Mayville where they raised their 6 children. She was a member of Gran Lutheran Church and involved in all activities at Gran.

Later she married Peder Simengaard.

She also thoroughly enjoyed working at the Luther Memorial Home as an aide for 30 plus years, retiring at age 77. Helen formed many special friendships throughout these years. Helen became a resident of Luther Memorial Home in March of 2008 where she was well cared for.

Helen was a very loving person and always thought of others before herself. She was very proud of her family and always looked forward to getting together for her birthday, Christmas, and other special occasions. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren touched her life and were very special to her. Helen had a strong faith and instilled that into her children. She also had a great love for all animals.

She is survived by her children Jerry (Ina) Paulson, Mayville; Jane (Dean) Nelson, Portland, ND; Karen (Neil) Otteson, Portland, ND; Beverly (Dale) Holt, Mayville, ND; Maxine Enger, Northwood, ND; and Janet (Tom) Nielson, Mayville, ND; 19 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband McLain; brothers, Hartvik, Art, and Norris Pederson; and sisters, Cora Enger and Thelma Ulland.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at Gran Lutheran Church, rural Mayville, ND.

Visitation: Will be from 5–7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church.

Burial: Gran Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Mayville, ND.
