Marjorie E. Schramm

Marjorie Elisabeth Schramm, 82, was received into heaven on March 11, 2012.

She was born Marjorie Elisabeth Holen on January 10, 1930 to Alfred and Arlotte May (Helland) Holen in Sarnia Township in Nelson County near Michigan, ND. Marjorie grew up on a farm, one of thirteen children.

She graduated from Dahlen High School in 1949 and continued her education earning a Standard Teaching Certificate at Mayville State Teachers College. Marjorie began her teaching career in a two-room schoolhouse and taught in several schools over the next seven years. While teaching in Cathay, ND she met and fell in love with a local farmer, who would become her life-long partner.

She was joined in marriage to Rudolph Schramm on December 8, 1957. For the next 50 years they farmed in Cathay, ND; ran their own farm implements business in Langdon, ND; wintered in Mesa, AZ; and retired in Devils Lake, ND. Recently, Marjorie resided at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton, ND.

A very artistic person, Marjorie leaves behind a legacy of carefully crafted quilts, paintings, and needlework for her family to enjoy. She was known for her quiet but caring manner and her generosity to her children and grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived by five daughters: Elaine (Scott) Enger of Hatton, ND; Diane (Rodney) Bye of Grand Forks, ND; Charlene Schramm of Rockville, MD; Amy (Eugene) Hepper of Fargo, ND and Paulette (Michael) Alves of Potomac Falls, VA. And, 11 grandchildren: Elisa (Brad Hill), Brice (Lindsey), Kyle (Andrea Severson), and Dustin Enger; Derrick and Andy Bye; Casey, Dallas, and Cody Hepper; and Bethany and Nathan Alves. Also, four sisters: Edna Dahlen of Grand Forks, ND; Olga Holen of Modesto, CA; Shirley Holen of Reno, NV; and Judy (Roger) Forsgren of Detroit Lakes, MN; and one brother, Richard (Glenna) Holen of Ruth, NV.

She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers: Arnold, Leonard, Olaf, Robert, David and Arlan Holen; and sister Lena.

Memorial Services: 2:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service in the Chapel.
